What is Haram Foods / Products ?

Definition of  Haram Foods / Products

The following are considered Najis and therefore Haram (unlawful, prohibited):

  • Pork or pork by products
  • Carrion, deceased life, living organism that is being exposed to decay, or expiration of a physical nature.

Haram Animal

  • Savenger animal such as vultures, bury beetles, blowflies, raccoon, etc
  • Animals not slaughtered properly or not slaughtered in the name of Allah
  • Blood and blood by products
  • To induce, stimulate, excite the effect of ingested liquor, spirit and alcohol
  • Animals with fangs or carnivorous animals such as lion, tiger, monkey, etc.
  • Birds of prey such as eagles, owls, etc
  • Repulsive Insects such as flies, worm, lice, maggots etc
  • Amphibian ( live both in water or land ) such as frog, turtle, crocodile, etc
  • Land animals without external ears

Donkey Haram

  • Mules and domestic donkey
  • Animals that poisonous such snake, scorpion, centipede, etc.
  • Almost all reptiles and pest such as turtle, rats, ets
  • Domestic pets such as Dogs & Cats
  • Animals are dead due to strangulation, a blow to the head, headlong fall, being attacked by another animal.
  • Poisonous or intoxicating or hazardous or narcotic drug
  • Poisonous or intoxicating or hazardous plants
  • Poisonous or intoxicating or hazardous liquid
  • Harmful or pose a health hazard to human
  • Harmful contamination or harmful pollution

Hraram Poison

  • Idolatry or Ritual offering from different religious or culture practices
  • Animals forbidden to be killed in Islam such as ants, bees, woodpecker birds, etc.
  • Any liquid and object derivative from the orifices of human being or animals such as excrement, urine, manure, placenta, vomit, rodent dropping, pus, sperm ova  etc

Swine is a supreme germ carrier. It is believed that when its flesh is eaten, especially when not cooked under correct conditions, it may cause many fatal diseases. In comparison to other meat types, pork is the most difficult to be digested. Pork has the highest content of fat impregnated within the meat. High fat content can cause diarrhoea especially in hot climate, overweight and obesity, as well as high levels of triglycerides and cholesterol which may lead to cardiovascular diseases.

Blood Sausage

  • Flowing Blood
  • Male reproductory organ
  • Testicles
  • Female reproductory organ
  • Pancreas
  • Gall bladder
  • Bladder
  • Spinal cord

The drinking of blood is considered repugnant to mankind. Not only is it treated as something disgusting, the consumption of blood can also be injurious to human health because blood is a good culture medium for microorganisms and is a carrier of diseases.

Just like the drinking of blood, eating the flesh of animals and birds which prey on other animals is repugnant to human decency.
